450B Aftermarket barrels???

Postby atomicjoe23 » Tue Nov 08, 2011 1:51 pm

This may be a stupid question, but who is offering aftermarket barrels in 450B besides Bushmaster. . .

. . .I have a 416SS PacNor barrel from AR15 Performance on my Mega Arms receiver in 6.8 SPC II that I am EXTREMELY happy with and would like to get something similar. . .

. . .it would be cool to find a fluted or helically fluted barrel similar to the LWRCI barrels for the 450B.

Thanks for the help!

I have since found out that I will need a custom barrel in order to use the bolt that I want to use (AR15 Performance 9310 alloy superbolt) because the bolt is only compatible with their barrel extension which has different threads and a different shank length than the standard barrel extension.

Thanks though!

Can AR Performance make a barrel to match it then?

They referred me to Satern Performance. . .I emailed them and they sent me an email back to let me know that they got my email and that they had given it to their barrel guy. . .I expect a response from them in sometime after the weekend.

I'll post up what I find out.

I am interested in this also. Sure would like a Stainless Barrel with the proper twist and bore diameter (not the handgun variety on the market), Heavy contour --- like Armalite's so it can be fluted and NO BRAKE.

Double check with MGI, as I thought barrels for their Hydra Modular weapon system, had some unique profiling to accommodate rapid barrel change that is the system's forte.

Black Hole Weaponry just posted an announcement on their forum that they will soon offer barrels chambered in 450B. I'd post the direct link but "weapons" content is blocked at work.

edited to add: Black Hole also does custom fluting too! One stop shopping

l will definitely keep you guys posted. . .

. . .this is what I asked for from Satern: 16" 416R SS barrel threaded for a brake (told them I didn't know if it was supposed to be 5/8"-24 or 11/16"-24 thread, but that I would find out), bead blasted (an option they offer) and that the Bushmaster barrel were a 1-in-24" twist (don't know if that's the best, just know that's what Bushmaster uses).

Maybe you guys could help me out with the brake threading (which one is right), the barrel diameter under the handguard, and the barrel diameter at the gas block. . .as this is info I haven't been able to nail down 100%. I know the .50 Beowulf barrels are 0.980" under the handguard and 0.906" at the gas block, but I don't know if the 450 Bushmaster uses the same size barrel or not.

If you guys that have 450's could help me out it could possibly help us out in the long run.

Thanks!
