LOADS DATA: 405 gr Cast/sized .452"

Had a bunch of Missouri Bullet 405 grain cast left over from my 45-70 days. A friend and I resized them to .452' doing it in stages so the wouldn't come out distorted. I've been searching on the internet but can't find any data for a bullet that heavy. Is it just too much bullet for the Bushmaster? Has any member here loaded a bullet that heavy?

Bullets came out looking good. First run was through a .454" sizer then the .452".

Load data will be scarce for cast bullets in any weight but 1680 would be my first choice with that heavy slug. It's pretty forgiving on pressure.

First thing I'd do is make up a dummy round seated to the lands to get a idea of case capacity, then work a charge up from there.

Not sure if Quickload be of any help or not.

Timothy LeGendres’ conversations with us regarding “bowling balls” comes to mind. Can’t wait to see the results. We can call these loads the Big Lebowski.

I was wondering if Reloader 7 would work. It did well when I had my 45-70 years ago?

Finally got around to loading up some of the 405 grain RNFP pills over 10.2,4,6,8 and 11.0 grains of Unique, lit by Win SR primer in twice fired Hornady brass trimmed to 1.689". Bullets are seated to 2.150". Waiting for wet weather to co-operate and dry up and I'll head to the range sometime this week for a test.

This next comment is going to be made purely in humor and no offense. But let us know when you get to the bowling alley... I mean range. ;)

Yeah my "shooting buddy" says I'm a glutton for recoil using heavy bullets. They may not work worth a damn but, won't know til I try. My Rhineland barrel seems to prefer jacketed pills over cast.
