HOWA mini in 450BM

Postby howa-doing » Tue Jun 06, 2023 7:34 am

I just ordered this gun and a muffler for it. I have had howa in 308win and 375ruger for years. So for the scope base i can find are 20MOA, will this be a problem???......Also i will cast and reload my own and want to stay SUBSONIC. MY 2 questions are how heavy will it stabilize at 1000 fps [subsonic]?......who has a one piece pic rail without the 20moa or should i just get the 20moa and see how it works out??

welcome aboard.

sweet looking lil rifle that Howa is. any idea what twist barrel they use?

I can't see the 20moa base being a issue, what scope you plan on using?

Welcome! Those are sweet little rifles! I looked for one in 450 for over a year and could not find one local to me, so ended up with the Ruger American counterpart. The Howa definitely has more appeal to the eye ; ). I hope its a good shooter for you and keep us posted. What suppressor are you going to run on it?

I run that same bullet at .452 with superb accuracy! Half inch (clover leaf) groups at 50 yards over 10.8 grains of Alliant Unique powder. 1050 fps. The key is to use a Lee Factory crimp die.

Been shooting sub-sonic in 450 BM for many years I see no need for a 20 Moe base for not going to be shooting 1000 yards.....just make sure you use a good scope that you can dial many times and will stay accurate.....
As far as shooting deer about 100 yards is maximum distance you can shoot and still make a fast humane harvest....I do game control shoots for deer and have shot many and prefer shots under 70 yards....
It's a lot of fun shooting sub-sonic but is very serious when taking the life of an animal doing it....have fun !!!

i got it yesterday....had a tag ''guarantee sub MOA''
stamped 1-16 on barrel
took some of my cast 405 cast LBT LFN and LWN for the 45-70
originally sized 459 and resized to 454....they looked good
also a factory cast 500g and resized to 454
i will try these before i buy a mold

i saw a recommendation of 10.8 unique
10 g of unique is my go to load for many things
