I very easily could have been doing something wrong - I was just trying to figure out how high to sight in at 75 yds, so the drop was <3" at around 250 yds..

I was using information on the Hornady factory 250 gr, the coefficient/fps were listed on the hornady website.. the only variable that I i sorta had to guess on with the height over bore for an AR..

From looking at a ballistic calculator to keep the bullet within +/-3" you could go out to about 250 yds and then it dropped like a brick.. My thought was that at +/- 3" that would allow some human error to keep within a kill zone at that distance

The Hornady website shows a 3.4" drop at 200 yards and 25.5" at 300, so a 250 yard shot will probably be outside of the + or - 3" criteria. See http://www.hornady.com/store/450-Bushmaster-250-gr-FTX-LEVERevolution. Hornady also has their ballistic calculator at http://www.hornady.com/ballistics-resource/ballistics-calculator, so you can change parameters and see if you can come up with something else.

There is a post on another thread, where Mr. Rowdy describes sighting in his long range shot - http://www.450bushmaster.net/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=10741&p=28232&hilit=mil+dot+scope#p28232.

Welcome aboard. There have been records of people making almost 3 hundred yard kills this year.
