I think that the ability to use curved magazines lies in the sidewall taper of the case.

the 7.62x39 has more of a angle than the 5.56x45 cartridge, thus the ak mags are more curved.

all one would need to do to use curvey mags would be to figure out a sidewall taper that fits the mags best.

also, is the idesa of this new cartridge to need zero modifications to the ar aside from a new barrel? I would love to have an upper that all I need to do to increase my firepower is to swap mags and barrels....

the difficulty with that is finding a parent case whose base would fit in the 5.56 bolt, and diameter large enough to fit a .40 cal bullet in.

this cartridge would be pretty slick if you could throw some heavy pills downrange at a subsonic speed..

with a suppressor, due to the smaller bore diameter it would be (in theory) easier to make quieter than a 45 caliber rifle...

sorry folks i'm poor, so i cant offer any prizes yet, maybe someday :(

good guesses on the cartridge so far but no hits.... it is a 6mm rem cartridge cut off at the neck and trimmed to 1.70" length...
the pills are actual .40/10mm bullets(.3995 to .40 actual) both rifle and handgun...theoretically should be able to use anything from 155 to 300 grain which are all currently being produced by various manufacturers... trying to keep this one away from reinventing new stuff, just utilizing whats out there already and use it in an AR-15 with no mods...

so far all i have to do is cut the brass and trim, take 10mm reload die set and set to the proposed OAL (2.225" for now)... reloads like a dream, no resizing or necks to worry about --simple, fast, and could be cheap depending on the type of bullets used(there is a ton of 10mm stuff out there)

if you can come up with a better cartridge to use as a parent, i'm all ears for different ideas...

Dang -- that was my second choice!!!!

Someone needs to run this on quick load to see what it will do. One of these days I will get it.

Yup, been there done that, as they say. I use 06 cases because they are plentiful, compared to 6rem. After cutting to length, I resize them in the 6rem die, to get the case mouths right. But lately I just cut the 06 cases and size the necks in a 7.62x39 sizer die, for about a quarter of an inch, the case now resembles the 30 carbine, which also has two different tapers. My Kill Bullet technology let's me run with a 308 case (now we have tons of availability), because that bullet is so long. Using the lighter 40cal bullets and the 308 case, with the cut off necks, leaves some space in front of the bullet, when the cartridge is in the mag, but this doesn't seem to be a problem. And now you know all about what I have papered as the 400 LeGendre, coming to a Major Manufacturer near you, soon enough!

PS..I make it shoot all manor of 40's from .40 to .410 to .416 bullets.

Tim, will this be available in an AR10/LR308 platform? If so would it be just a barrel swap?

sounds like a lot of work, i chose the 6mm rem parent because i wouldnt have to do any work to the "neck"... cut, load, and fire form the brass into the chamber to do a cartridge "neck up" with minimal brass deformation for a perfect fit...

i'll post pics of the barrel when i get er done....

thanks guys

Siringo gets the award. I have and love my 6mm Remington. It's made by necking down a 7x57 mauser case.
